The long-sleeved, lace blouse is decorated with white bone-lace and colorful ribbons. The richly embroidered vest is made of fine white linen. It has machine-made lace décor on the lower section. The triple-frilled skirt is made of peach-colored cotton, and each frill is decorated with colorful ribbons.

Festive costume from Szajla

Region: Szajla
The so-called slingolt “angel blouse” is made of fine white linen and has long sleeves. The pruszlik (bodice) is embroidered by hand. The pleated skirt is made of calico adorned with red dots on a blue background. The batiste apron is gathered at the waist and decorated with machine-made embroidery; it is worn over the skirt.

Costume from Veresegyház

Provincialism: Palóc
Region: Veresegyház
The short blouse is made of fine linen and the vest-like garment (the so-called “wolf pruszlik”) is worn over it. Both garments are adorned with the corresponding blue flower embroidery. The skirt is made of satin cloth and decorated with a series of closely laid rows of handmade, flower-adorned embroidery combined with violet and green.

Matyó new wife’s festive costume from Szentistván

Provincialism: Matyó
Region: Szentistván
The hair is parted and combed back from the forehead. The bridal headdress and black veiled tarás suta (to mourn the years of being a maiden) is on the head. The so-called tara, with a pasteboard basis and decorated with golden bone-lace and colorful ribbons, is affixed to the richly pearled frontal piece of the headdress. The cashmere shawl is adorned with colorful silk hearts and fringes, and is worn over the feltört (i.e. affixed to thick, stiff butter-paper) fine linen blouse shoulders. The pleated skirt is decorated with red ribbons and edged with black velvet on the lower section. The loose, accordion-pleated apron is decorated with ribbons and worn over the skirt.

Costume from Nógrádmegyer

Region: Nógrádmegyer
The blouse is made of black velvet and embroidered with green buttons. The green berliner (manufactured wool) shawl belongs to the winter costume. The accordion-pleated skirt is decorated with a handmade flower décor. The dyed textile apron is worn over the skirt. It is trimmed with embroidery combined with blue and green according to the tradition of félgyász (in the last quarter of the year held to mourn the deceased).

The green, cashmere blouse is edged with black velvet, red braids and black bone-lace. The skirt is made of the same textile as the blouse; it is accordion-pleated and edged with velvet and red ribbons on its lower part.

Region: Vácrátót
The cotton linen blouse is decorated with cross-stitch embroidery on its sleeves. The so-called “wolf pruszlik” (vest-like garment, bodice) is made of satin cloth and trimmed with a close series of handmade, flower-adorned embroideries, combined with blue and green colors. The accordion-pleated skirt is made of the same textile as the pruszlik. The combination of the skirt and the bodice is for fasting and/or félgyász (in the last quarter of the year, held to mourn the deceased).

Festive costume from Rimóc

Region: Rimóc
The blouse is made of cotton linen; it is pleated above the elbows and decorated with white embroidery. Violet brocade silk lajbi is worn over the blouse, and a neck shawl, made of flame-colored, dyed textile and with printed trimming, is above it. The skirt is made of the same textile equivalent as the vest; it is gathered at the waist and has five rows of the so-called zámedli (narrow) fold-ups and salmon-pink cloth edging.

Bride’s costume from Ipolyszög

Region: Ipolyszög
The bridal wreath is made of colorful artificial flowers, mirrors and beads tied with ribbon at the back; it is worn on the head. The fine line blouse is pleated on the shoulders; its cuffs are trimmed with eyelet embroidery. The neck shawl on the blouse is edged with crotchet work and trimmed with flat-stitched embroidery; it is made of fine linen. The skirt is accordion-pleated white silk; the apron is white-laced batiste.

Costume from Varsány

Provincialism: Palóc
Region: Varsány
The blouse, with pleated cuffs and white embroidery, is made of cotton linen. The lajbi is made of textile with mulberry silk stripes arranged into perpendicular striped rows on a black background. The pleated skirt is made of the same material. Pinafore made of black satin cloth and decorated with a red-triangle pattern completes the costume.
