Bride’s dress from Kolon

Provincialism: Felvidék
Region: Kolon
The flat-stitched embroidered underblouse is made of fine white linen. There is a bodice, made of white brocade and decorated with pleated ribbons and threaded pearls, worn over it. The accordion-pleated skirt and the apron are made of the same white silk textile; the latter has no pleats in the central section.

Young wife’s costume from Kolon

Region: Kolon
The long-sleeved, cotton linen blouse is decorated with applied ornaments. The sleeves are embroidered horizontally with wool yarn flat stitches, embroidery, á jour and pinking stitches, and white bone-lace on the cuffs. There is a neck shawl made with koloni (flat stitched) embroidery worn over it. The accordion-pleated skirt is made of satin with single white flower décor. The apron is taffeta and made with filet lace red wool knitting.

Groom’s costume from Martos

Region: Martos
A felt hat decorated with colored ribbon is worn on the head. The shirt is made of fine white linen and decorated with pumpkin seeds and bone lace on the breast section. The vest has silver buttons and the loose trousers made of linen are decorated with framing edge embroidery and fringes at the bottom. Black leather boots are on the feet.

Lad’s costume from Kéménd

Region: Kéménd
A felt hat with a deep crease is on the head. The shirt is made of fine white linen; the black cloth jacket with a double row of buttons and pocket flaps is worn over it. A pair of straight-shaft boots arched in the front is on the feet.

New wife’s costume from Kolon

Region: Kolon
Young lady’s headdress affixed to the lower “wire chignon” and richly decorated in the back with pearl embroidery is worn on the head. String ribbon, decorated with koloni (flat stitched) bone-lace embroidery and placed upright, covers the tie of the headdress. Colored ribbon décor hangs from the string ribbon. The costume is composed of a skirt made of titlangli textile, a neck shawl and double underblouse. The apron is also tilangli; it is divided into two parts by a colored ribbon and decorated with flat stitches.

Girl’s costume from Kéménd

Region: Kéménd
The hair is tied into a single braid and decorated with a white silk ribbon. The blouse is made of fine white linen and decorated with machine-made lace on the cuffs. The brocade vest is decorated with applied ornaments and elongated at the waist to accentuate the hips. The skirt is made of the same textile; it is pleated on top and has a tubed lower section. There is a batiste apron worn over the skirt.

New wife’s festive costume from Martos

The hair is parted and the two plaits hang off on both sides leading backwards and turned into a chignon on the back of the head. The so-called “bride’s headdress”, which is prepared with small and large golden bone-lace and indicates the status of the new bride, is worn on the head. Colored ribbons in four strands, decorated with golden bone-lace at the ends, hang from the back of the headdress below the waist. The blouse with baggy sack-sleeves is made of blue perkát and has bone-lace applied ornaments, cross stitches, pleated double bone-lace frills and pleats on the elbows. The skirt is made of black cashmere; it is a pleated and decorated with two rows of ribbons. Over the skirt is worn a pleated apron made of tilangli textile and richly decorated with color ribbons, golden bone-lace, pumpkin seeds in many rows and pittyogó. A neck shawl made of blue perkát and decorated with two rows of colored ribbons, pumpkin seeds, pleated bone-lace frills and flat stitches, as well as colored ribbons on the stomach, breast and arms completes the costume. A pair of hard, stiff boots is on the feet.

Costume from Martos

The costume includes a blouse with baggy sack-sleeves that are decorated with blue-silk and pleated colored ribbons and bone-lace frills which are pleated at the elbows. There are also a pleated double-skirt made of dyed-blued textile accentuated with flat décor at the bottom, and an apron made of white silk and decorated with pumpkin seeds, golden bone-lace and flat stitches. A neck shawl made of cashmere and richly decorated with pleated bone-lace frills to accentuate the hips, and pumpkin seeds and other applied ornaments complete the outfit.

The so-called kaci (jacket) with tiny flow patterns and colored ribbons is made of rusty brown velvet. It has been partly altered. The skirt is made of dark blue silk textile with a flower pattern; it is pleated at the waist and has ribbons at the bottom and flat stitches. The apron is of machine-made lace; it is richly decorated with ribbons and other colored ribbons.

Woman’s festive costume from Martos

The head is totally covered by a shawl. The costume is composed of a blouse with baggy sack-sleeves decorated with blue perkát embroidery and bone-lace frills on its cuffs and pleated at the elbows, and a pleated double-bottom skirt made of blue cashmere and decorated in the lower section with two rows of ribbons, and an apron decorated with pumpkin seeds, golden bone-lace and flat stitches that harmonize with the textile of the skirt. A neck shawl made of black cashmere, richly decorated with pleated bone-lace frills, pumpkin seeds and applied ornaments to accentuate the hips, completes the costume. A pair of black leather boots is on the feet.
